Technology Projects

Starting in 1994, the technology project was first introduced with a string racer competition. The Technology Project provided an opportunity for students with an interest in designing and building of a machine as well as problem solving. The string racer was a wheel or propeller driven vehicle and was powered either by electric motor of rubber band. Racers competed head to head on a 100 foot race course of string suspended between two 4 ft x 4 ft x 4 ft platforms.

Starting in 2000, the Science Fair introduced Technology Day at Healdsburg Junior High, holding it the Saturday before Science Fair week. The technology projects ranged from Rube Goldberg machines (HS student only), bridges, egg racers, egg drops, balloon cars, rubber band cars and catapults.

Due to its popularity upon introduction in 2006, Rube Goldberg machine categories were created for elementary and junior high students as well as high school. Each year now, Technology Day sees over 60 machines built by 3rd grade up to 12th grade students.
